Women’s Right and Health Project (WRAHP) initiated a Women Empowerment Scheme (WES) for survivor of gender-based violence, the project was based on the premise that investing in women’s economic empowerment sets a direct path towards gender equality, poverty eradication and inclusive economic growth. In 2014 WRAHP got the support of Esso Explorations and Production Nigeria Limited for an intervention to improve the lives of vulnerable women. The project identified and built the business capacities of 30 vulnerable women (mostly survivors of domestic and gender based abuses) and empowered the beneficiaries to increase their business financial bases for those who have already-established businesses and established new businesses for those who had none at the time.
